19-23/5/2015- Seminar “iNEETiative - Holistic Approach to Youth at Risk and in NEET situation” (Romania)

A stakeholder seminar on NEET practices and how to create better opportunities for this vulnerable group on their pathway to reintegration in society and the labour market.

Theme:
NEETs, Status Zero, the excluded, alienated, disenfranchised...

Some young people fall out of the boat for different reasons. They are not in education, not in training and don’t have a job either. They have disappeared from the system e.g. school dropouts, unemployed that are thrown from the dole, homeless youngsters, who don’t find their way to services or help, people living in illegal situations, people alienated from society,... (So we are not talking about those who choose to do something else e.g. gap year, voluntary service, world travel).

Seminar is part of the SALTO Inclusion a longer-term strategic approach to reach these disenfranchised young people who are excluded from the system and see how we can reconnect them to society and improve their opportunities in life.

The first cross-sectorial seminar on youth at risk and in NEET situation took place in October 2014, in Finland www.salto-youth.net/neetseminar and was focused on gaining a better understanding of NEET terminology, concepts etc.

“iNEETiative” seminar will bring together 30 different stakeholders (formal, non-normal, social & business sector) to explore methods to intervene and reach out to youth at risk and in NEET situation.
Seminar will be followed up by the training on cross-sectorial project development in the second half of 2015.

General aim:
To create bridges and sustainable cooperation between professionals from different sectors working with young people in NEET situation and exchange how to create better opportunities for this vulnerable group on their pathway to reintegration in society and the labour market.
Objectives:
• To exchange possible ways to work together and stimulate development of connected services
• To analyse and collect good practices and identify the underlining success criteria
• To rethink their own practices
• To analyse the role of different stakeholders and what they can do
• To get to know different realities
• To feed into the bigger SALTO Inclusion research on NEET
• To get information about Erasmus+ programme funding possibilities

Profile of participants:
Anyone with experience working on the issue of vulnerable young people in NEET situations (either face-to-face workers as well as managers/decision makers).
This can be:
• Youth workers
• Teachers, school support staff, alternative education staff, vocational programme staff,…
• Social workers, representatives of social services
• Researchers, academics with focus on NEET
• Local authorities/policy makers responsible for social provision
• Employers, apprenticeships programmes, employment agencies, job centres, job clubs, job coaches…
