As part of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, FIMM is seeking outstanding candidates for positions of Doctoral Students in Molecular Medicine and Bioinformatics starting in August 2017

Description: FIMM (www.fimm.fi) is an international research institute focusing on human genomics and personalized medicine at the Helsinki Institute for Life Science of the University of Helsinki. FIMM integrates molecular medicine research and technology centre and biobanking infrastructures under one roof promoting translational research in grand challenge projects, specifically, the impact of genome information from the Finnish population in personalized health and medicine, individualized cancer medicine, and digital molecular medicine. The areas of interest of the 18 research groups cover cancer, cardiovascular disease, immune disorders, and neurological and psychiatric diseases.

FIMM works together with the University of Helsinki Doctoral School in Health Sciences (DSHealth) and doctoral programmes (www.helsinki.fi/health/) to provide excellent research training and courses aimed at a doctoral degree at the University of Helsinki.

As part of an annual international joint call of the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine, we currently have two openings in the fields of molecular medicine, bioinformatics and computational biology for doctoral students who show outstanding potential to become independent researchers and who will significantly benefit from the FIMM-EMBL International PhD training. Qualifications and experience: Candidates are expected to have a relevant second cycle academic degree (MSc, MD or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, bioinformatics, biotechnology, cell biology, computer science, genetics, mathematics, medicine, or other related fields, obtained before the end of 2017. The successful candidate will have good problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical skills. In addition, the candidate should be fluent in English, have good interpersonal and written and oral communication skills, and be able to work independently as well as within an international team.
