5 PhD Fellowships, Dublin City University, Ireland (2017)

Global India (ETN,H2020), is a multi-sectoral doctoral training programme focused on India’s emergence as a global and regional power, and its relationship with the EU. The Network brings together six leading European universities, with six leading Indian universities, and six non-university partners. It will recruit 15 PhD fellows across the network. Fellows will spend a semester in an Indian University and have a work placement in one of the non-university partners. The network is led by Dublin City University, who will host five Fellows. DCU has been in the top 50 international universities under 50 years old in the QS ‘Top 50 Under 50’ rankings for the past four years. In the QS subject rankings DCU was ranked in the top 150 universities globally in Politics and International Studies.

‘Global India’ is recruiting 5 PhD fellows to undertake the following projects:
- Gender and political parties in India: pathways to women’s political participation. The project addresses factors affecting selection of women as candidates in political parties, including institutional barriers, cultural barriers and/or the social construction of gender within religious and secular discourses in India.
- India’s foreign aid policy: the contradictions of becoming a global player.
 What are Indian’s strategic reasons for promoting a development programme? How is the development programme rationalised in the context of domestic conditions?
- Energy security and sustainable development: conflicting priorities in EU-India relations. Analyses the potential areas of conflict between the EU and India and from this basis examines potential areas of agreement that can be built on, or areas in which co-operation could develop.
- The impact of global acquisitions on the capacity of indigenous high-tech software start-ups to develop technology clusters in local economies: The project investigates a policy area with potential benefits for local economic development and innovation in India and Europe.
- State response to internal violent conflict: Analyses the causes of conflict and state responses to internal conflict in India related to problematic aspects of Indian democracy; social inequality; secessionist conflicts or border conflicts.

Eligibility criteria
- Applicants must have a master degree in a relevant discipline and excellent English.
- Candidates must be early career researchers, that is, have less than 4 years (full time equivalent) research experience. Candidates cannot hold a doctorate.
- Mobility rules apply and candidates must not have lived for more than 12 months in Ireland during the three years prior to 1 September2017.

Salary
The salary will be €37 903 pa (subject to Irish taxation and deductions).

Those with dependent family will have the higher rate of €42 492 pa (subject to Irish taxation and deductions).
