The Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) programme Energy & Process Technology offers you a 2-year position combining post MSc education and a design project to be carried out at Triogen B.V.
The educational programme, carried out at the University of Twente, will have an in-depth and broadening character with ample attention for professional development and will be partly tailored to the design project. In collaboration with Triogen in Goor you will work on high level, creative new designs for complex issues.
The project - Particle deposition on a heat exchanger of an Organic Rankine Cycle using flue gas from the combustion of biomass or waste
Background of the project: In various industrial processes, there is a huge amount of unused energy emitted in in the form of heat. This waste or residual heat can be converted into useable electricity by a process called Organic Rankine Cycle (ORC). Triogen B.V. of The Netherlands is developing and marketing such an ORC system, which is already deployed for heat contained in the flue gas of gas and Diesel engines. An important next application is the use of exhaust gas heat from the combustion of biomass and waste. When cooling these gasses, certain deposits originating from the combustion of the biomass/waste will arise on the surface of the exhaust gas heat exchanger.
Your main goal is to develop and design an economically attractive and energy efficient solution for an adapted heat exchanger design and a cleaning system, taking into account the character of the deposit arising from fuels used in the market area of Triogen
You make an inventory and characterization of possible deposits, modelling of the gas side flow in the heat exchanger, inventory of possible heat exchanger systems and design, possible cleaning methods and selection of the preferred method
Your solution will be build and tested in actual operating conditions by Triogen, where the you will play a role in the evaluation of the results.
Deadline Application: 31-10-2017
