Totalitarianism emerged in Europe by World War II as a popular type of governance seeking to promote state power and reduce the power of civilians. Totalitarian governments establish rigid rules and regulations for citizens, controlled all aspects of daily life by making education, banking and other key services fall under the control of the government.Roma were seen by the Nazis as being inferior, they were not as good a human being as the superior race.

Discrimination against the Roma, marginalization and ostracism are still prevalent in today’s Europe.

Methodology

The methods of this seminar will be forum theatre and non formal education. Forum and street theatre is often used by socially excluded and disempowered groups as interactive form of theatre that encourages audience interaction and explores different options for dealing with a problem or issue. Through theatre we will give chance to youngsters to raise their own awareness about the Holocaust, elements of discrimination, denial of civic rights in the past and today towards the Roma.

The methodology is based on NFE methods: using manuals such as: Right to Remember, T-Kit-Social Inclusion, Compass etc. groups work, brainstorming, wall writing, association game, discussion, debate, simulation, audiovisual techniques
Aim and Objectives

The aim of the training is to build capacity of youth workers and activists about the Roma past, mainly for Roma Holocaust and Human rights education and Roma present, mainly for discrimination and access to social rights.

To reach the general aim of the TC, the objectives are:

• Learn Forum Theater and Human Rights Education in context of Roma past and present
• Promote tolerance and equality through reflecting upon the European values and European identity;
• Roma and non-Roma volunteers and activists, sharing their grassroots engagement
and practices relating to Roma inclusion;

Present will be Roma and non-Roma youth leaders, activists, multipliers, and volunteers who are working with young and/or Roma youth.

Participants must also:

• be familiar with the situation and challenges of the Roma community in their country
• be motivated to develop their competences in advocacy, anti-discrimination work, human rights and to share their experiences with other participants
• be aged 18 –
• be committed to attend for the full duration of the course
• be able to work in English
• be resident in one of the European countries and Balkan countries: Macedonia, Albania, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro
