Heidelberg University invites applications for two positions to be filled by PhD students or senior researchers. The positions are devoted to mathematical models of learning networks for image analysis using methods from differential geometry and optimal control.
The positions are affiliated with the Heidelberg Collaboratory for Image Processing (HCI, hci.iwr.uniheidelberg.de), which comprises four research groups (Hamprecht, Ommer, Rother, Schnörr) focused on the themes of Image Analysis and Computer Vision, Machine Learning and Mathematical Modeling. Postdocs will be hired for an initial period of two years, PhD students for three years with the option of further extension (funding already secured).
Prospective candidates have a degree in Mathematics or Physics. Postdoctoral applicants must have publications in relevant first-rate journals. Besides a strong mathematical background (for example: computational spatial statistics, optimization, ODE/PDE numerics, differential/information geometry) we require fluency in advanced C++ or Python programming as well as in English.
