The International Max Planck Research School for Chemistry and Physics of Quantum Materials is a joint PhD program between the Max Planck Institute for Chemical Physics of Solids, Dresden, Germany, Technische Universität Dresden and the University of St Andrews, Scotland. By working together, we create a highly attractive overall package of PhD level research on quantum materials, in particular in the fields of solid-state chemistry and condensed matter physics.
We seek to recruit up to ten PhD students in 2019 to a range of inter‐institutional research projects in the broadly defined field of quantum materials. Both experimental and theoretical projects are offered and a complete list of all projects is available on our website. Research work will be combined with graduate courses and general skills training.
We are looking for highly motivated PhD students who have a record of excellence in their previous studies. Most of our incoming students will have Masters degrees (or equivalent) as part of their entry qualification. Applications from candidates with excellent Bachelor degrees will also be considered for some projects. If you join IMPRS-CPQM holding a Bachelor degree, you will do extra graduate courses to take you to the equivalent Masters level.
All of our graduate courses are taught in English. Further, English is used as the common language in most research projects, so that having sufficient language skills is recommended.
