Postdoctoral Scholarships in Synaptic Physiology, Karolinska Institutet, Sweden (2018)

Καταληκτική Ημερομηνία:
Δευτέρα, Δεκέμβριος 31, 2018

The Department of Neuroscience includes several research groups working on different aspects of nervous system function, both under normal conditions and in various disease states. Research projects include a broad range of studies on the molecular and cellular levels, networks of neurons, and the organization of the nervous system as a whole. The Department has a flat organization with 40 researchers, of which 24 are full professors and 65 PhD students.

Teaching represents a fundamental activity at the Department, which participates in several undergraduate courses and postgraduate education programs. Each year approximately 15 students receive their PhD from our Department and many of our graduates have gone onto distinguished careers in the academic or private sector.
Funding is now available for two postdoctoral research scientists in synaptic physiology at the Department of Neuroscience of Karolinska Institutet, Sweden.

The research projects in the lab of Assistant Professors Emanuela Santini and Anders Borgkvist deal with different aspects of basal ganglia physiology in genetic disease models of movement disorders, drug addiction, and neurodevelopmental disorders. Methods and tools routinely used in the laboratory include confocal and 2-photon imaging, behavioral analysis, fiber photometry, immunohistochemstry, western blotting, and hypotheses are addressed almost exclusively using transgenic mice.

Entry requirements
Candidates applying for the positions should hold a Ph.D. or MD (awarded later than 2016), with a minimum of two first author papers.

Experience with patch clamp electrophysiology, primarily in brain slices, is necessary, with recordings in freely moving rodents being an additional request. Hands-on experience with surgical procedures and viral expression systems are a must.

The candidates should also be proficient in computer and statistical programming (Matlab/Igor/R) for the development of routines and analysis of imaging and electrophysiology data.

The candidates should be highly organized and ambitious with excellent communication skills in English. Interpersonal skills are essential and we emphasize the person’s ability as a team player and contributing to a friendly work environment.

Scholarships for postdoctoral qualification can be established for foreign researchers who place their qualifications in Sweden. The purpose of scholarships for postdoctoral qualification is to promote internationalization and contribute to research qualification after a doctorate or equivalent.

A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

To be eligible for a postdoctoral scholarship, the person must have obtained a doctorate or a foreign degree deemed to be equivalent to a doctorate.

Type of scholarship
A scholarship for carrying out postdoctoral research can be granted for a maximum of two years within a four year period following the receipt of a doctoral degree or equivalent.

The amount is tax free and it is set for twelve months at a time, paid out on a six months basis. In exceptional cases, shorter periods may be acceptable.
