The Research Center of Hazard & Risk, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Shanghai, China, led by Professor Lulu Zhang is to explore the innovative theories, methodologies, and tools for risk analysis and management for natural hazards. The group is now offering one postdoctoral position and two PhD positions in the following areas:
(1) Distributed modeling of geohazards in regional scale
(2) Advanced numerical modeling of geohazards and consequence assessment
(3) Risk assessment of geohazards considering the impact of climate change
(4) Risk assessment of submarine landslides focusing on the effect of gas hydrate
Postdoc position:
The candidates of the postdoc position must have received a PhD degree within the past five years or within the next 10 months from an accredited college or university. A PhD degree in one of the following fields: geotechnical engineering; engineering geology; hydrology; hydrogeology; hydrometeorology; remote sensing; geostatistics are required. Previous experience with quantitative risk assessment is an advantage. Previous work in the fields of geotechnical numerical modeling or hydrological modeling is also an advantage. The candidate must have a good scientific publication record. Ability to work independently and effectively towards objectives is required.

Ph.D. positions:
The applicants should be highly motivated students with a BS or MS degree in civil engineering or related fields. Applicant should also have proficient written and communication skills in English. Knowledge in probability theory and programming skills are not mandatory but will be a plus.
