The department of „Chemical Biology“ offers Postdoctoral positions in Medicinal Chemistry and Chemical Biology (f, m, d).
The strategic aim of our department is to discover and characterize novel antibiotics through screening, synthesis and mode of action studies.
Requirements:
The successful candidates will be responsible for the synthetic optimization of small molecule inhibitors of validated targets against bacterial infections. Three different projects are pursued that are directed at Gram negative pathogens. The projects offer various aspects of modern chemical biology and antiinfective drug discovery, including chemoproteomics and target interaction analysis, bacterial imaging, structure-based optimization, or multiparametric lead optimization. The compounds are prepared by medicinal chemistry techniques and will be extensively profiled at the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research and at the TU Munich. The candidates will be exposed to challenges in organic synthesis, medicinal chemistry, lead finding strategies, antibiotic development, and mode of action work.
The incumbents will be part of multidisciplinary teams composed of members of the Helmholtz Centre for infection research, national partners of the German Center for Infection Research (DZIF), and pharmaceutical industry partners. Some projects require collaboration at the international level (France, Israel, China).
Candidates should have a completed Ph.D. degree in synthetic organic chemistry or chemical biology, as proven by high quality scientific publications. Candidates should be highly motivated and be able to design and conduct multistep synthesis. Profound knowledge in organic chemistry, purification and analytical tools such as HPLC/MS and NMR spectroscopy are mandatory. Experience in cell biology and biochemistry is considered as an advantage. The ability to work in a multidisciplinary and international team is mandatory.
The centre provides modern laboratories, up-to-date spectroscopic and analytic instruments, ample biological profiling platforms, a lively scientific community and excellent support for the development of personal soft-skills that will provide the ideal background to further develop the career of successful candidates.
Equal opportunities are part of our personnel police.
With equal professional qualification, severely disabled persons will be prioritized. Part-time work is feasible.
