The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations and cross-disciplinary research and post graduate education. CyI, through its established research centers, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.
The successful candidate will enhance the group of Energy Planning and Analysis within the activities of the Energy Division of the Institute’s Energy, Environment and Water Research Center (EEWRC). This field is a growing part of EEWRC’s portfolio and is expected to increase its activities in view of the needs arising from the global energy transition and the need to address national, regional and global climate challenges. The main research topics, among others, include long-term energy modelling, impact assessment of energy policy scenarios and technoeconomic assessment of energy technologies. These topics are considered central to the connections between the centers of the Cyprus Institute, vital for the continuous collaboration with local and regional policy makers, and necessary for CyI’s mission to become a regional hub of high-quality energy policy research.
The successful candidate is expected to have an economics background with strong research output and post-doctoral experience in the interactions of energy and the economy, preferably with empirical work in one or more of the following fields:
Macroeconomic impact of energy and climate policies at national, regional or global level
Economic modelling of energy and/or carbon markets
Simulations of the impact of sustainable energy technologies or policies with the aid of behavioural economic models
