Intern for the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory at Cyprus Institute

The Cyprus Institute invites applications for an Intern at the CyI's Climate and Atmosphere Research Center (CARE-C) in the framework of the EU-H2020 “EMME-CARE” (Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre; http://emme-care.cyi.ac.cy/; TEAMING Grant no. 856612), and in cooperation with EU Advanced Partners (Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in Germany; University of Helsinki in Finland; and CEA in France).

More specifically, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience through contributing to the activities of the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory (ECL) related to environmental chemical analyses and supporting the long-term atmospheric monitoring programme of CARE-C. The successful candidate will assist senior and junior researchers in the daily operations of the Environmental Chemistry Lab (ECL) and the analysis of atmospheric (PM) samples by various analytical methods (incl. ICP-MS for trace metals).

The position will be on a full-time basis for a fixed term of one year, renewable depending on performance and availability of funds. The successful candidate will be under the supervision of the Head of the ECL Research Facility of CARE-C.

Responsibilities/activities to be involved in:
The operation of the Environmental Chemistry Laboratory
The chemical analysis of atmospheric (PM) samples with a suite of analytical instruments such as ICP-MS for trace metal analysis.
The data quality check and data processing of the above-mentioned chemical analyses.

Required Qualifications
Bachelor Degree in Physics or Chemistry
Excellent knowledge of the English language both verbal and writing
High interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team
Strong analytical and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and measures relevant to lab activities
Experience in operating scientific instrumentation related to analytical chemistry
Experience in Environmental sample analysis of trace elements
