PDEng Programme Smart Manufacturing at the University of Twente

The Professional Doctorate in Engineering (PDEng) programme Robotics is very interesting for you. The PDEng programme is a 2-year post MSc technological programme with a focus on technological design. This programme at the University of Twente contains an educational part that will be followed at the University, and a design project that will be carried out at a Dutch high-tech company. The educational programme will have an in-depth and broadening character with ample attention for professional development and will be partly tailored to the design project. In collaboration with the company, high level, creative and new designs for complex issues will be aimed at.

PDEng Design Project - Model-based control algorithms for smart manufacturing of metal parts
For highly accurate production, even the smallest scatter in material properties may lead to products that are out-of-specification. A high-tech Dutch company in manufacturing tools has developed a method to collect material data during a forming process. This information is collected by a completely in-house developed test system. The company is interested in further analyses and research related to material characteristics and behaviour during a deformation process.
This PDEng design project addresses the next stage where further investigations are needed to fully exploit the information that can be extracted from the measured data. Modelling of the material behaviour during and after the interaction with the machine is essential for a better understanding of the process. In order to predict the product properties after forming, the insight from modelling is combining with techniques from systems and control theory.
