Volunteer for the EVS project in the Jugendkulturhaus CAIRO in Würzburg

DESCRIPTION OF CAIRO:
In the Jugendkulturhaus Cairo there are events and training opportunities for young people, young and adults
who still feel young.
In the area of events, the volunteers act and find ideal conditions for carrying out the concerts, lectures and
film evenings. In the theater area the pupils and student groups can decide by themselves which pieces they
like to perform but they can receive the organizational support by the management of the house. There are
three workshop-rooms: the photo processing laboratory, the video studio and pottery, which can be used
during the opening times after a course or as an introductory visit separately. In other rooms there are offers
from the fields of dance, theater and sports. Since the closure of the open area, the Cairo has a total of three
stages for rehearsals and performances.

The city Würzburg is responsible for the Jugendkuturhaus Cairo. Cairo is located in 5 s building under protection conservator of monuments in the city center. Würzburg is a city situated in Lower Franconia in northern Bavaria with approx. 130,000 inhabitants. Würzburg is a university town with approx. 20,000 students.

Cairo is a very well known in the city, a lot of concerts take place there. Many of them are independently organized by a group of young people. Young people also visit regularly workshops (photography, dance, pottery).

EVS PROJECT:
Working time: 13: 00 – 20:00
(during some concerts longer, till the end of the event, for example from 16:00 – 00:00)
Volunteer tasks are very diverse and will be planned together in the team (depending on interests and
language skills of the volunteer)
1. Events: planning, organizing (sometimes some events are held late nights, that is why the overtime you can
take another day off)
2. Education: management, the organization offers courses and participation in courses
3. Public relations: press, design advertising materials, preparation of the program, care of the website and other means of communication (Web 2.0)
4. social management and marketing: organizing, planning and improvement infrastructure in Cairo
5. Working in a group: working with other volunteers, development projects,
taking responsibility tasks, participation in co-weekly team meetings
6. Administration: management of finances,
7. Communication: post, e-mails, phone calls.
8. Working in association: participation in the meetings of the association,
management, sponsoring
9. Cooperate with other social and cultural institutions

The volunteer will receive: room in a flat, pocket money (110€), food money, German language course,
monthly ticket for the local transport, insurance, reimbursement of the international travel costs (two ways),
pedagogical, organizational and personal support.
The project is coordinated by an experienced EVS coordinating organisation Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken
(www.jubi-unterfranken.de), which is supporting around 10-15 volunteers in the region a year. There is a blog

The European volunteers will be supervised by the experienced pedagouges. The team is supported by an
interns each year and other volunteers (FSJ). The supervisors have enough experience to ensure the
introduction and support of the volunteers. They also plan to share the learning objectives (each volunteer gets
an individual training plan). The hosting project cooperates with the Jugendbildungsstätte Unterfranken - the
Jubi will assume the role of the coordinating organization and support the Cairo in the EVS project.

PROFILE OF THE VOLUNTEER:
The Organisation is looking for a young person between 18 and 30 years old who is interested in culture, art and youth
work. This person should be prepared to work sometimes till late evening or at the weekends (therefore they
will get free day). The knowledge of German language will be an advantage but it is not an obligation to apply.
