Postdoctoral Positions in Clinical Proteomics, University of Copenhagen, Denmark (2017 - 2018)

Postdoctoral stipends are available in the clinical proteomics group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – www.cpr.ku.dk). The Center has been established at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. The Center comprises a wide range of expertise and resources including proteomics, protein production and characterization in disease mechanisms. The clinical proteomics group is led by Prof. Dr. Matthias Mann, a leading authority in mass spectrometry-based proteomics with more than 180,000 citations and an h-factor of 199 (Google Scholar).

The clinical proteomics group develops and applies proteomics technology with a goal of understanding health and disease and making an impact in public health. We work in close synergy with the Proteomics and Cell Signaling group at the Max-Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Munich, which is also led by Prof. Mann as well as other groups at the CPR, especially Prof. Chunaram Choudhary in cell signaling and Prof. Søren Brunak in bioinformatics and patient record mining.

Our particular focus is on the plasma proteome in the context of metabolic disorders such as diabetes. To this end, we are developing technology for the rapid and large scale analysis of plasma proteomes using mass spectrometry-based proteomics to a depth of at least 1000 proteins per patient. We have termed this approach ‘plasma proteome profiling’ and our goal is to develop it into a comprehensive tool for medical diagnostics (Philip Geyer et al, Cell Systems 2016). We are currently looking for several talented and motivated post-doctoral fellows with experience in the core or associated technologies to join a young and dynamic team in beautiful Copenhagen.

Qualifications
- The candidate is required to have a PhD or equivalent degree in the natural or medical science.
- Excellent scientific track record, including at least one publication as first author in a high quality, peer reviewed international journal.
- A good molecular biology/molecular biomedicine background is required.
- Experience with mass spectrometry based proteomics is highly desired.
- Experience and interest in technology development, especially in MS-based proteomics are advantageous.
- Experience with clinical proteomics is likely desirable.
- The candidate needs to be able to work effectively in an international and multidisciplinary team.

Demonstrated writing and other communication skills are advantageous.
