Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for full-time, fixed term position(s) as photonics technology postdoctoral research scientists with the Tissue Optics and Microcirculation Imaging Facility Laboratory (TOMI) at the National University of Ireland, Galway. The positions are funded by a mix of commercial and public funding. The positions are available from the 1st January 2018 on a two-year or four-year fixed term contracts which are tied to specific funded awards.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have a PhD in Physics, Optical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or an equivalent discipline. Candidates must have a track record in a research and development environment with a proven, first-author, publication record. Candidates with experience working with or in industry (photonics or analytical science domains) are particularly welcome.

Candidates must have a strong background in photonics instrumentation (e.g. OCT, Microscopy) and proven experimental expertise in one or more of the following: (i) Integration of light sources with novel instrumentation, (ii) Construction and alignment of optical systems, (iii) Optical modelling and algorithm development or (iv) Optical hardware design.

Specialized experience in polarization optics or clinical instrumentation would be desirable. Programming skills such as MATLAB, Java, C++, OpenCL, Python especially for the acquisition and signal processing of data from high speed A/D converters would be desirable.

Candidates must have excellent communication (in English) and organizational skills; be highly motivated and passionate about developing new instrumentation and analytical methods; and have strong documentation, oral and interpersonal skills.
