Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy is currently seeking to recruit
2 Doctoral Students, Social and Public Policy, for a fixed term of 2 years, starting on 1 August 2018 or according to a separate agreement.

The duties of a Doctoral Student will focus on postgraduate studies. The Doctoral Student works as a member of the Research Group on Ageing and Comparative Care Policy (RG1), within the Centre of Excellence in Research on Ageing and Care (CoE AgeCare), funded by the Academy of Finland. One of the Doctoral Students will work within the Linked Ageing project, funded also by the Academy of Finland. The Research Group is led by Professor Teppo Kröger.
The tasks of a Doctoral Student focus on research concerning doctoral thesis, doctoral studies, assisting teaching tasks and other related tasks. One Doctoral Student will be working within WP5 Independent Living for Older People, which examines the applicability of the framework of Independent Living, created by the disability movement, in care for older people. Another Doctoral Student will work within WP7 Rehybridisation of Care, which focuses on comparing new models of care provisions for older people, emerging in different welfare regimes. The topic of the doctoral thesis must relate either to WP5 or WP7, and it must be aligned with the research profiles of the discipline and the department. In addition, the Doctoral Students will participate actively in the joint activities of the Research Group and the Centre of Excellence. Success in earlier studies, expertise in using various research methods and previous experience from research, project work and international collaboration are considered as merits.
The duties and qualification requirements for the position of Doctoral Student are stipulated by the University of Jyväskylä Regulations and language skills guidelines. The selected person is required to have a full command of Finnish language. When considered appropriate, the university may grant exemption from the language proficiency requirements. A good command of English is required.
The doctoral students are required to have a master's degree and the right to postgraduate degree studies at the University of Jyväskylä. If the applicant does not have permission for post-graduate studies in the University of Jyväskylä, it must be applied with a separate application procedure from the proper faculty.
