Positions for a Postdoctoral Researcher and a PhD Student are available in the BioMedical Center of the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich in the lab of Dr. Michaela Smolle to study how remodelling enzymes influence chromatin dynamics and gene expression.
The lab takes a systems biology approach, using cutting-edge genomics techniques, including ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and ATAC-seq technologies in combination with in vitro biochemistry and biophysics to investigate the effects of chromatin perturbations on non-coding transcription in budding yeast.
Ideal candidates will be highly motivated and creative individuals able to apply and push new technologies to develop new research avenues in the field of chromatin biology. Currently, we are particularly interested in understanding how different chromatin remodellers influence histone dynamics over promoters and gene bodies, thereby affecting transcription initiation and elongation by RNA polymerase II. The lab and research community at the Department of Physiological Chemistry and the Biomedical Center provide state-of-the-art facilities and a collegial, international and highly supportive environment to develop new and innovative research directions.
Minimum requirements for the postdoctoral position include a doctoral degree in biochemistry, biology, bioinformatics or related field, with demonstrated experience in transcription, genomics or computational biology. The ability to communicate effectively and to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented, interdisciplinary environment is essential for this role. Experience in programming and data analysis is especially welcome.
Minimum requirements for the PhD position include a master’s degree or equivalent in biochemistry, biology, bioinformatics or related subject. The ability to communicate effectively and to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented, interdisciplinary environment is essential. Previous experience in molecular biology (ChIP, qPCR, next generation sequencing) and/or basic computer programming is a definite plus.
Applications will remain open until the positions are filled.
