The government of Latvia will be opening a call with the aim of increase the scientific capacity of young scientists, ensure career possibilities for young scientists in scientific institutions and commercial businesses, improve general research competences, renew human resources and increase the number of qualified specialists.
Accordingly, Institute of Clinical and Preventive Medicine (http://www.kpmi.lu.lv/en-gb/about-kpmi), University of Latvia (Riga, Latvia) is looking for potential candidates interested in the call in order to create new post-doctoral positions. Our Institute in cooperation with the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) is running a population based multi-center study aimed at decreasing the mortality from stomach cancer (GISTAR, more information available www.gistar.eu). The study is a randomized clinical trial for evaluating the efficacy of Helicobacter pylori eradication combined with early detection of precancerous lesions in the prevention of invasive gastric cancer incidence and associated mortality. The design of the study requires allows multiple ancillary studies, involving research in microbiota and related areas.
The post-doctoral positions are expected to cover the following areas of studies:
1) The research on the effect of the intervention on microbiome (understanding of microbiome composition, health effects and functions is mandatory; experience with 16S and metagenome data analysis is required);
2) Design, monitoring and analysis of epidemiological studies;
3) Big data analysis for health and disease prevention.
4) Ethical, Legal and Social Implications (ELSI) component of clinical studies - ethically and socially responsible governance of research biobanks.
The principal requirements for the candidates include:
1) PhD qualification from an EU University obtained and dated after June 1, 2008
2) No previous EU funded post-doc position
3) EU citizenship or permanent residence permit
4) High-ranked publications in peer-reviewed journals
