The Spatial Planning and Transportation Engineering research group is seeking a highly motivated and creative doctoral candidate who would undertake research in the area of Road Traffic Control, with special emphasis on Connected and Automated vehicles (CAVs). The doctoral candidate will join a multidisciplinary research project and conduct research on developing novel traffic estimation and control strategies, accounting for the implications of CAVs on traffic flow. The research will have a strong modelling and simulation component, based also on empirics wherever possible using our instrument vehicles.
The position should start in early 2020 and is intended for full-time work. The selected individuals will work under supervision of Assistant Professor Claudio Roncoli. The successful applicant will have possibility to cooperate with world-class researchers, as well as to attend scientific conferences and meetings. Moreover, the research group provides strong support and academic freedom, with possibilities for interdisciplinary collaboration, both internationally and within Aalto University.
Research areas, requirements, and expectations
The doctoral candidates are expected to conduct research in one or more of the following areas:
· Road traffic estimation and control
· Modelling and simulation of traffic systems in the presence of CAVs
· Data fusion techniques using innovative sensing technologies
· Coordinated driving strategies for future traffic systems
