The Persat lab at EPFL (p-lab.science) is looking for two talented and motivated candidates for interdisciplinary projects at the interface of microbiology and engineering.
Position 1: Interactions between host, microbiome and phageome.
The project leverages various technologies including a novel intestinal organoid for host-microbe interactions studies. Here, we will seek to provide a mechanistic and quantitative understanding of how bacteriophage influence intestinal homeostasis by modulation of the microbiota. This project is in collaboration with the Nadell lab at Dartmouth.
Candidate profile: a background in microbiome, biofilms, phage biology or organoids is a plus.
Position 2: Mechanosensation in bacterial pathogens
The project consists in identifying how pathogens sense and respond to forces. This work stems from our previous finding on Pseudomonas aeruginosa regulation of pathogenicity via mechanical forces, where we had found that type IV pili help single cells sense and respond to surface contact.
Candidate profile: a background in microbiology, cell biology or biophysics is a plus.
