You will be part of the External Statistics and Sector Accounts Division in the Directorate General Statistics. The Directorate General is responsible for developing, compiling and disseminating the statistics and related statistical indicators that the ECB uses to conduct monetary policy and banking supervision, and which also enable the other tasks of the ECB, the Eurosystem and the European System of Central Banks to be carried out. In addition, we provide statistical support to the European Systemic Risk Board and ECB Banking Supervision.
You will join the Sector Accounts and Fiscal Statistics Section. We are a team of 20 staff responsible for, among other tasks, compiling and disseminating the quarterly integrated euro area accounts. We also take an active role in the development of distributional national accounts and the monitoring of key developments in non-financial national accounts.

Your Role
As a PhD trainee you will:
contribute to the development of distributional financial accounts for the euro area by linking micro data from the Eurosystem Household Finance and Consumption Survey (HFCS) with the household sector macro data included in financial accounts, as well as analysing this linkage further and investigating potential analytical uses;
prepare documents for meetings of experts from national authorities;
develop and refine methods to estimate distributional financial accounts by linking the HFCS and financial accounts;
enhance and maintain the software (programmed in R) used to produce distributional financial accounts;
complete a conceptual or empirical study suitable for presentation at an internal seminar and/or to experts from national authorities.
