Cell competition is a process that recognizes and eliminates abnormal cells during development. It is thought to be important in aging and cancer[1]. By means of genetic screens, our group has identified the cell competition pathway that responds to and eliminates cells with mutant ribosomal protein genes (PMID: 29316439, 30018730, 31841522, 31909714). Positions are available for molecular and developmental studies to better understand the mechanisms and functional contributions of cell competition.
