The University of Cologne is seeking to fill 2 PhD positions in the project ‘From icon to abstraction in sign language: how iconicity shapes the lexicon in the visual modality’ (DFG/AHRC funded). The project investigates iconicity as the basis for meaning in two sign languages (DGS and BSL) and gesture. The sites of this bilateral project are the University of Cologne, Germany (PI Pamela Perniss) and the University of Birmingham, UK (PI Gerardo Ortega). The PhD positions are based at the University of Cologne.
