Three PhD positions in Neuroscience

The research group Cellular and Computational Neuroscience is part of the Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences (SILS) Neuroscience theme and investigates the regulation of neuronal excitability and plasticity at the membrane, cellular and network level using electrophysiological, pharmacological and molecular techniques.

It has three PhD positions in Neuroscience available.

3 PhD positions for research into risk for lung disease

The PhD candidates of this project will first perform epidemiological research in large existing cohort studies. They will then invite 5.000 people at medium to high risk for developing lung disease to perform a large questionnaire study. After selection, they will include 350 of these participants in a clinical study. When data collection is finished, the candidates will perform (statistical and bioinformatical) analyses in clinical, -omics and exposome data. The PhD candidates will have the opportunity to write publications and to present their work on (inter)national conferences.

PhD positions in Empirical Legal Studies

You will conduct research and participate in the Groningen Graduate School of Law (GGSL)’s training programme. You will also be required to teach for a small part of your appointment. You will have plenty of opportunities to participate in international conferences and national and international workshops and seminars. Agreements regarding training and supervision will be recorded in your personal training and supervision plan.

PhD positions on Geotechnical reliability and risk assessment

The geotechnical analysis and design is often challenged by the presence of huge amounts of uncertainties. Two PhD positions are available in Dr. Jie Zhang’s research group in Tongji University, Shanghai, China, under the sponsorship of CSC scholarship. The research topics related to the above positions are as follows:

(1) Reliability-based design methods for complex geotechnical structures;
(2) Quantitative risk assessment of rainfall-induced landslides.
