Youngsters deal more and more with technology, internet and mobile devices. Most often they watch videos, listen to music and have full time access with their friends. They see themselves mostly as consumers of digital media but not so much as creators of digital material, even though thousands of pictures are put on Instagram and short movies are shared every day.

In this summer school, expert speakers will explain the traditional techniques of book production (printing, lay-out, illustration) and discuss publishing, selling and reading of books in those fascinating times. You will learn more about libraries and the emergence of copyright and censorship. And you will be introduced into specific areas of publishing, such as bible editions, literary fiction, humanist text editions, and ephemera.

Dealing with safety and security as practical challenges calls for structure and protocols, but also for adaptive and innovative thinking. This course aims at providing participants with theoretical insights and hands-on methodologies. In small groups, students will apply these concepts and methodology on a specific safety/security related problem. They will be challenged by a real client, an international group of lecturers and fellow students to provide the most innovative solution.

This international summer school will take place from July 2 to July 7 2017.
