This year’s conference contributes to the discussion of the role of experiences and senses in relation to the anthropology of the Balkans. It is a common place by now, among anthropologists, that subjectivity and neutrality are not really met, when going to the field. People confer sense and purpose in what they say and do, so alternative approaches have been employed, in an attempt to understand the multiplicity of lived life and the performances performed on a daily basis.

1. Excitation/electron management in quantum dots and quantum dot solar cells. The aim is to manipulate quantum dot/nanoparticle constructs to use a broader part of the solar spectrum for effective current generation and/or photochemistry.
Supervisors: Tom Gregorkiewicz and Albert Polman. Employment by University of Amsterdam.

Milena Jesenská Fellowship Program for Journalists, Austria (2015 - 2016)

The Milena Jesenská Fellowship Program, named after the Czech journalist, writer, and translator Milena Jesenská (1896-1944), offers European journalists time off from their professional duties in order to pursue in-depth research on a topic of their choice. The call is directed towards cultural journalists, with the term “cultural” being interpreted in a broad sense to encompass a wide variety of intellectual and artistic fields. However, applicants’ work may also deal with societal issues of European relevance and be related to one of IWM’s research fields.

Kooshk Artist Residency for International Artists, 2015

Kooshk residency is a non-political cultural and artistic space in Tehran which tries to provide a convenient space for artists, curators, researchers, writers and filmmakers to encourage inter-cultural dialogues and art creation. The Kooshk Artist Residency, that will take place from 1-31 July 2015, has been implemented to support artists, creativity and the development of new ideas in the unique space of Tehran.
