The Unit JRC.C.6 "Economics of Climate Change, Energy and Transport (ECCET)" conducts economic analysis of climate, energy and transport policies, both at the EU and global level, using different databases and expertise with in-house economic models and econometric tools.
The ECCET unit offers two postdoc positions to contribute to the European climate risk assessment. The main objective of this project is to assess the impacts of climate change in and outside Europe (transboundary or spill-over effects) on the EU. The research underpins climate policy actions under the European Green Deal, EU Adaptation Strategy and Paris Climate Agreement. The analysis integrates JRC and international climate, biophysical and socioeconomic modelling to assess a wide range of impacts of climate change: on people, ecosystems, human assets and economic sectors.
The primary duties of the successful candidates involve
· advance the understanding of climate impacts in and outside Europe using state-of-the-art climate hazard and climate-impact databases;
· manipulate, interrogate, analyse, visualise, and interpret spatiotemporal data on key biophysical and socioeconomic impacts in and outside Europe;
· develop and apply probabilistic tools to quantify the range of possible climate impacts, well beyond the average ones, with special emphasis on low-probability high-impact climate events with potentially catastrophic outcomes;
· translate scientific output in peer-reviewed publications and policy summaries.
