The Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) in Regensburg is an independent research facility with close links to the University of Regensburg. It is characterized by the combination of historical and economic expertise as well as by its focus on Eastern and Southeastern Europe. Another significant feature is the institute’s distinct international orientation. Together with the University of Regensburg, the institute provides an attractive research environment in a city known for its high quality of life. Regensburg has one of Germany’s largest preserved medieval cities holding the status of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) awards the Augustin Hirschvogel Fellowship for the first time. The duration of the research stay is up to four weeks.
Eligibility
The IOS encourages applications from historians, geographers, cartographers or scholars of cognate disciplines, who focus on Eastern or Southeastern Europe.
Fellowship
The amount of the research allowance is determined by the applicant’s professional experience. As part of a mutual agreement with the institute, the fellow is expected to contribute to the development of GeoPortOst by testing and exploiting it. GeoPortOst is the IOS gateway for historical maps, printed in books and published digitally in a GIS format for the first time.
