You will be part of the Fiscal Policies Division in the Directorate General Economics. Our Division has 26 staff members responsible for assessing the national fiscal policies of the Member States of the European Union (EU) and the euro area fiscal stance, providing fiscal forecasts and debt sustainability analysis, and producing analytical work on a variety of related topics. These include the role of fiscal policy for macroeconomic stabilisation in the context of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the interplay between monetary and fiscal policies. The Division is also responsible for analysing issues related to the reform of the architecture of Economic and Monetary Union (EMU), in particular concerning the EU fiscal framework.

Your role
As a trainee you will:
support Research Analysts and Economists in our Division, contributing to short-term tasks and longer-term projects;
retrieve data from public and commercial databases, maintain and develop databases in the Division in order to monitor fiscal developments and related macroeconomic and financial market indicators;
contribute to enhancing the Division's analytical, econometric and forecasting tools;
support the production of the Division's regular internal and published products, including its contributions to the ECB's Economic Bulletin, for instance by preparing tables, charts, presentations and other analytical inputs in collaboration with other ECB business areas;
conduct empirical analyses using Microsoft Excel and econometrics software and contribute to the Division's research projects.
