Humanity in Action will host a study trip in Greece this fall for university students, recent graduates and young professionals. The goal of the study trip is for participants to learn, discuss and better understand the contemporary dynamics and discourses of Greek society and the influence of the economic crisis on Greek political life and social affairs. This program focuses on human rights, democracy and diversity as well as on civic engagement. It will take place in Athens and is open to Greek university students and recent graduates as well as to Humanity in Action Fellows and Senior Fellows from any country. The working language will be English.
Participants in this one-week study trip will explore the impact of the economic crisis on Greek society as well as on minority and marginalized groups such as immigrants, refugees, Roma or members of the LGBT community. The program will create an international learning experience and a platform for constructive exchange and dialogue. It will include a mix of lectures, discussions and meetings with civil society leaders as well as skills-building workshops. Participants will learn from academics, practitioners and activists and from each other in a forward looking and respectful learning environment. Through this study trip, Humanity in Action also seeks to provide an environment of networking and skills building for young professionals seeking to address social issues in their home communities.
Humanity in Action will select a total of 30 individuals to participate in the program. Fifteen participants will be recruited from Greece. Fifteen participants will be selected from within the Humanity in Action community of Fellows and Senior Fellows. Fellows and Senior Fellows from all years and countries are eligible to apply.
Humanity in Action requires all participants to develop and implement an activity after the study trip that reflects the learning experience from the program in their home community.
