The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a non-profit research and educational institution with a strong scientific and technological orientation, emphasizing international collaborations, cross-disciplinary research, innovation, and post graduate education. The CyI, through its established research centres, addresses challenging issues that are important at both the regional and international levels. Many of its research activities are being carried out in partnership with leading institutions in the respective thematic areas.
Within this context, CyI in cooperation with Advanced Partners Max Planck Institute for Chemistry (Germany), University of Helsinki (Finland) and Laboratory for Sciences of the Climate and the Environment (CEA, France), established the Climate and Atmosphere Research Centre of Excellence (CARE-C), under EMME-CARE Horizon 2020 – TEAMING Grant no. 856612.
Under the Supervision of the CARE-C Director, the successful candidate will be expected to further develop CARE-C’s research and technical expertise on regional atmospheric and chemistry modelling, emphasizing on the Eastern Mediterranean – Middle East – North Africa, and with particular focus on contributing to activities related to the emission inventories compilation (at national level and spatialized on a grid) and assessment for scientific and policy-oriented applications.
The research will be carried out within the Impact & Policy Department of the EMME-CARE Centre-of-Excellence and will consist of monitoring, reporting, verification as well as scenarios and projections of national emissions for both gaseous pollutants and greenhouse gases of the country’s sectors as required by EU directives and international standards. Training (methodologies and tools) by expert European organizations and networking with local and regional stakeholders will be provided and are anticipated to be enriched by the selected candidate, thus requiring strong communication and technical potential. Inventories compilation in adherence with (inter)national requirements is expected to take place in close cooperation with relevant competent Authorities in Cyprus, thus requiring the successful candidate to have close interaction and collaboration with public-sector officials and policy-makers.
The appointment will be on a full time basis, initially for a 2-year fixed-term period, with the potential of renewal depending on performance and EMME-CARE and Institute needs.
