The objective of SUSPLACE is to train altogether 15 Early Stage Researchers (ESR) in innovative, interdisciplinary approaches to study sustainable place-shaping practices. The SUSPLACE-approach will provide insight into how to utilize the full potential of places and communities for development, help to build capacities of people to engage in place-shaping processes and strengthen connectivity between policy-makers, academics, businesses and civil society. SUSPLACE is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Innovative Training Network (ITN), funded by the EU Framework Programme for Research and Innovation Horizon 2020 (see http://ec.europa.eu/research/mariecurieactions/about-mca/actions/itn/ind....)
The 15 individual research projects are divided along five interconnected research themes: inclusive, resilient and connected places, greening economies, and pathways to sustainability. SUSPLACE brings together 6 university partners and 7 non-academic partners in six European countries (the Netherlands, the UK, Latvia, Belgium, Finland, Portugal). SUSPLACE provides a unique opportunity for ESRs to potentially acquire a PhD degree in an exciting and emerging field of research, if they show sufficient progress after the first year. SUSPLACE will provide training in scientific and professional skills to enable ESRs to pursue an academic career or high-professional career at various institutes such as governments, NGOs, consultancies and businesses.
