Institute of Biomaterial Science, Teltow PhD students (m/f) in the field of polymeric biomaterials and their biological evaluation Code No. 2015/B 14
The place of employment is Teltow (Berlin, Germany).
The Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht in Geesthacht, near Hamburg, and in Teltow, near Berlin, conducts materials and coastal research. You can find more information at www.hzg.de.
The Institute of Biomaterial Science in Teltow of the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht invites applications as PhD students (m/f) – in the field of polymeric biomaterials and their biological evaluation. The positions are planned for 3-years and will be initially a 1-year fixed term contract with subsequent evaluation.
Depending on scientific background and interests of the applicant, the work may be based in one or several of the following fields:
- synthesis and characterization of (multi)functional polymers and hydrogels
- stimuli-sensitive and biomimetic polymers
- polymer engineering
- formation and analysis of polymeric nano- and microstructures
- drug/protein release systems, microfluidics, and on-demand release
- engineered (stem) cell models to mechanistically understand processes at the biomaterial/cell interface
You will be responsible for the benchwork of your own projects and will furthermore actively participate in the publication of the results.
Graduated students, especially with expertise in organic chemistry, macromolecular chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences, materials science/engineering, biomedical engineering or biology as documented by your educational training (e.g. M.Sc., diploma), are encouraged to apply. Interest and proficiency in interdisciplinary research combining chemistry/polymer sciences and biology are required. You are speaking English fluently, can provide documentation of your completed studies, and possibly have first experiences in international project work. A high degree in self-organization and in self-motivation as well as continuing further education in polymer chemistry and biology during the PhD project will be expected from the candidate and supported by the institute.
