The Faculty of Veterinary Science is a leading provider of Veterinary and Animal Science education, and a leader in scientific research. The Faculty operates two campuses, one in Sydney city and one in rural Camden. The faculty provides a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in veterinary and associated disciplines and is a leader in animal welfare and ethics and has implemented several research-led approaches to learning and teaching and used these to showcase student output of high quality.
The fellowship takes the form of a research-only appointment at Level A (step 6) for outstanding researchers less than 6 years post award of PhD (career interruptions may be accepted but must be detailed). In this position you will design and carry out research in the area of animal health or wildlife conservation and management or animal production under the guidance of an academic mentor. These fellowships provide a unique opportunity for outstanding early career researchers to establish their research directions. Fellows will be expected to design and conduct innovative research programs, to publish high impact papers, supervise HDR students and apply for research funding. The will also be expected to provide up to 40 hours per year of undergraduate or postgraduate teaching.
The fellows will contribute to one of the Faculty’s research themes of animal health, wildlife conservation and management and animal production (http://sydney.edu.au/vetscience/research/themes.shtml) and join and forge new multidisciplinary teams across the university. One fellowship will be directly linked to research in feline medicine, another to Veterinary Pathology and Innovative Therapies.
Applicants should identify a faculty mentor who is prepared to host the fellow in their labs and develop their project applications with the guidance of the mentor. Applications without a mentor will not be considered. During the fellowship, fellows will receive research training and development in research project management, supervision, commercialisation and intellectual property.
