Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation.Today, MSF is a worldwide movement of 24 associations, bound together as MSF International, based in Switzerland.Responding to the increased needs faced by migrants and refugees who risk their lives to reach Europe, the international medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) launched new projects in Greece and Serbia in the second half of 2014 and the beginning of 2015.
MSF has been providing medical care and distributing relief items to migrants arriving in the Dodecanese islands. In Idomeni, close to the border with FYROM (Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia), MSF is running mobile clinics and distributing relief items for those who first arrive in Greece and continue crossing the Balkans to go to northern Europe. In Lesbos Island MSF is organizing medical mobile clinics, offering mental health support, distributing non-food items and working on water and sanitation in the camps. Since those who land on the Northern coast have to walk for two days to reach the town of Mytilene, where they can be registered, MSF also started a free bus service. In collaboration with 2 Greek NGOs, MSF is providing medical rehabilitation to the survivors of torture in Athens.
