We invite applications for 3-year Marie Sklodowska-Curie ESR Fellowships to start between January and August 2016 to work with the European Research Initiative on ALK Related Malignancies (www.erialcl.net) on projects that will build on our existing collaborations. Successful candidates will receive a stipend according to the applicable regulations of the EC governing Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions ITN-ETN – Training Networks to cover their living expenses.
Requirements:
Applicants should have (or expect to obtain by August 2016) at least the equivalent of a UK upper second-class honours degree in a biological subject/medicine, which provides them with the qualification to start their PhD. A background in oncology/cancer research would be advantageous. The fellowship is offered in conjunction with a PhD position, subject to the fellow satisfying the host University’s admissions requirements for PhD study. Applicants must satisfy the EC’s eligibility requirements for MSC-ESR fellowships, and must not have resided in the host country for more than 12 months in the last 3 years.
How to apply:
Interested applicants should select two research projects from the ALKATRAS research portfolio. Please ensure that you submit a cover letter detailing up to 2 project choices in order of preference, full CV and two academic references. Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment.
Selection process:
Each application will first be assessed for eligibility of the candidate with particular reference to the mobility rules. Those applicants that are eligible will then be assessed individually by the stated principal investigator (PI) in charge of the chosen research project using criteria based on scientific merit of the applicant, relevance of research training and experience, level and quality of degrees awarded, previous publication record and documented experience of teamwork. Suitable candidates will be contacted by the 24th December and invited for an interview, either in person or by remote means. Interview panels will consist of the PI and 2 other senior staff members bearing in mind gender balance. If you have not been contacted by the 24th December 2015, please assume that your application has been unsuccessful. Each application will require two letters of recommendation that are written by individuals directly involved in the training of the applicant. The selection process will follow the European Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers including its gender and equal opportunities recommendations.
