Description
The European Network on Independent Living (ENIL) is a Europe-wide network of disabled people, with members throughout Europe, and includes all disabled people and their non-disabled allies on the issues on independent living. ENIL represents the Disability movement for human rights and social inclusion based on solidarity, peer support, deinstitutionalization, democracy, self-representation, cross disability and self-determination fighting against discrimination through Europe. One of the main missions of ENIL is to carry out training and awareness raising activities at the European level. Therefore, ENIL organizes this Study Session on the matters of disability and sexuality.
This will be a week-long study session for young disabled people in Strasbourg, France, between 17- 24 April 2016.
During the study session they will:
Promote social inclusion of young disabled people by providing them with a safe space to explore how sexuality and relationships relate to social inclusion and achievement of Independent Living;
Address the varying aspects associated with an individual’s identity when exploring barriers within disability and sexuality, especially the process of realising sexual and reproductive rights;
Produce materials which support young disabled people across Europe to explore their sexual identities and relationships in the context of social inclusion and Independent Living;
Empower young disabled people so that they can be leaders in their communities and support other young disabled people to understand their rights around sexuality and relationships;
Give young disabled people the needed skills to explore sensitive issues through non-formal education, as part of their efforts to promote Independent Living of young disabled people;
Encourage young disabled people to understand the connections between the Independent Living philosophy and women’s rights and issues affecting the LGBTQ community, and to work in a collaborative way with different groups in their countries.
