The Cyprus Institute (CyI) is a European non-profit science and technology institution based in Cyprus and led by an acclaimed Board of Trustees. The research aims of the Cyprus Institute are represented by three research centers: the Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CASTORC), the Science and Technology in Archaeology Research Center (STARC), and the Energy Environment Water Research Center (EEWRC). Considerable cross-center interaction is a characteristic of the Institute’s culture.
Description of the position
The Computation-based Science and Technology Research Center (CaSToRC) of CyI invites applications for a Physicist/Chemist/Computer Scientist educated/experienced/specialized in atomistic computer simulations, quantum chemistry calculations, molecular dynamics, and statistical mechanics. Applications from scientists without direct experience in atomistic simulations are also encouraged. The successful candidate will work on developing theoretical methodology and software for ab initio path integral and ring polymer molecular dynamics simulation of various condensed phase systems.
The Post-doctoral Fellow will have the opportunity to serve as a bridge between two research groups at The Cyprus Institute (Prof. Yury V. Suleimanov) and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (Prof. So Hirata). Numerous secondments to UIUC (short-term visits for training and research) are expected. Training participation at UIUC will make the successful candidate familiar with the most refined approaches of generating accurate and fast potential energy surfaces developed at UIUC which will be used further in various condensed phase simulations in order to address the most exciting and topical issues in the field.
Responsibilities
- Atomistic computer simulations of liquid water

- Secondments (short-term visits for training and research) to UIUC
- ability to travel up to one third of work time (United States-Cyprus);
- manage own research and administrative activities, with guidance from both institutions;
- build internal contacts and participate in the network for the exchange of information and to form relationships for future collaboration between CyI and UIUC;
Required Qualifications
- PhD in Chemistry, Theoretical and Computational Chemistry and/or Physical Chemistry or Physics with specializations in atomistic computer simulations, quantum chemistry calculations, molecular dynamics, and statistical mechanics
- Expertise in programming languages such as Fortran (preferred), C or C++, MPI and Open MP
