The Sussex Neuroscience 4-year PhD Programme is now inviting applications for September 2016 entry.
This Programme includes a first year of laboratory rotations and taught modules which you can choose across the following interdisciplinary themes: Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience; Circuits, Systems and Computational Neuroscience; Cognitive and Behavioural Neuroscience; Translational and Clinical Neuroscience. This year gives you the chance to explore the approaches and techniques employed by a range of neuroscience disciplines, building your experience and training and placing you in an excellent position to make an informed choice of PhD project, which you will complete over the remaining three years. Professional development support and activities are provided throughout, and the Programme supports opportunities for further training in the UK and abroad.
There are four places available, with each student receiving a stipend equivalent to a UK research council studentship. UK/EU fees and research costs are also covered by the Programme. Students from outside the UK/EU are encouraged to apply, and will need to pay the additional overseas fee each year.
The PhD Programme attracts some of the brightest students internationally. We welcome applications from students who hold (or are predicted) a 1st class or upper 2nd class BSc degree (or overseas equivalent) in neuroscience or a related scientific discipline such as biology, physics, psychology, computing or medicine. Year 1 supports a transition to neuroscience by providing a selection of taught courses tailored to your background and interests, and the three laboratory rotations both broaden and deepen your experience of different neuroscience fields. Applications should also demonstrate your aptitude and potential as a neuroscience researcher.
