Candidate profile:
We are seeking an experienced maritime professional with a strong background in seafaring, maritime operations, and health and safety (H&S) practices. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in vessel operations, crew resource management, and safety culture enhancement. They should possess an in-depth understanding of human factors in maritime environments, risk assessment, and industry regulations. The candidate must be proactive, analytical, and capable of driving safety and human element initiatives within the organization. The candidate will also provide training in their field of expertise (ocean literacy and vocational education and training (VET) programs), with a strong focus on project-based learning and lifelong learning initiatives.
Job description:
The Maritime Human Element Specialist will be responsible for supporting research, development, and implementation of strategies to improve human factors, safety culture, and operational performance in the maritime industry. Key responsibilities include:
Conducting assessments of human factors and safety performance in maritime operations.
Developing and delivering training programs focused on safety, crew resource management, and human element aspects.
Analyzing incident and accident reports to identify human element trends and recommending preventive measures.
Supporting the integration of human-centered design principles in operational procedures and maritime technologies.
Providing expert advice on health and safety regulations and best practices in the maritime sector.
Collaborating with industry stakeholders to promote safety culture and crew well-being.
Contributing to research projects and publications related to human factors and maritime operations.
Qualifications:
At least 5 years of seafaring or maritime operations leadership experience (at least a Chief Officer certificate if from seafaring background or similar experience if from shore-based background).
Strong knowledge of maritime health & safety (H&S) regulations and best practices will be considered a strong advantage.
Experience in risk assessment, incident investigation, and safety management systems (SMS) will be considered a strong advantage.
Understanding of human factors principles and their application in maritime environments.
Ability to develop and deliver training sessions on safety and human element topics.
A very good mastery of the English language needs to be documented.
