The chair of Bioinformatics in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf invites applications for Postdocs and PhD candidates – theoretical biology (metabolic models) starting as soon as possible.
The Bioinformatics & Theoretical Systems Biology Group:
Our main focus is the development of advanced optimization-based metabolic modeling strategies, by integrating important biological constraints not considered in current mainstream algorithms such as flux balance analysis (FBA). In addition, we build models for simulating metabolic evolution in plants and bacteria. We will define a project in this framework that best fits your profile and experiences.
Requirements for PhD candidates:
A master‘s degree in physics, biochemistry, biology, or in a related subject is required. If your degree is in a biological subject, we expect a proven interest in mathematics or computer science. Ideally, you already have experience in metabolic modeling, but this is not a prerequisite.
Requirements for Postdoc candidates:
You should have extensive experience in metabolic modeling, documented through peer-reviewed publications.
Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf:
Heinrich Heine University is a vibrant academic institution in the heart of West Germany, with particular emphasis on the life sciences. Our university aims at increasing the percentage of employed women. Applications from women will therefore be given preference in cases of equal aptitude, ability and professional achievements unless there are exceptional reasons for choosing another applicant. Applications from suitably qualified severely disabled persons or disabled persons regarded as being of equal status according to Book IX of the German social Code (SGB – Soziales Gesetzbuch) are encouraged.
