The 4 PhD positions are each part of larger projects, including national and international partner institutions, which are to be carried out in the context of the so-called SURF programme: Smart Urban Regions of the Future (see also surf.verdus.nl). Stimulating research cooperation with the consortium partners is foreseen. PhD positions are opened on the following four topics:
1. Tradable peak-hour permits in road transport: a real-world experiment 2. Behavioural modelling of peak-hour commuting behaviour: stated and revealed preference approaches 3. Automated driving: spatial-economic implications (command of Dutch required) 4. Urban form, energy use and local environmental quality: a general equilibrium perspective
Project summaries can be found on the Department’s website: www.feweb.vu.nl/re, under “Vacancies”.
Applicants can choose to indicate a motivated interest in either one or more of these projects; in the latter case a ranking would be helpful.
Requirements
Applicants should have a Master of Science degree, with excellent grades, in Economics or a related discipline. We expect candidates to show a clear research orientation, have the drive to publish in top-level academic journals, and to be able to communicate easily in both an academic and a policy context. You should be proficient in written and spoken English.
