The School of Economics and Business Administration & Legal Studies of the International Hellenic University (IHU) would like to invite you to the next presentation in the Research Seminar Series. Marc Stierand, Assistant Professor of Service Management at École Hôtelière de Lausanne will present the topic of “Using Qualitative Research to Explore the Development of Creativity in Practice”.

The purpose of the Research Seminar Series is to bring together the academic and business community by presenting contemporary research topics in Finance, Business, Marketing, Accounting and Economics, among others. Through these seminars, as an international centre of knowledge, innovation and research, at the crossroads of Southern Europe, the IHU attempts to further strengthen its strategic role in academic excellence. Drawing on the experience of outstanding Greek and international academics, working papers are presented on a regular basis, with the aim of establishing a meeting point for active researchers.

Speaker information:
Marc Stierand, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Service Management and a fellow of the Lausanne Hospitality Research Center both at the École hôtelière de Lausanne. His research focuses on managerial and organizational cognition and management education and development, with particular interest in personal and team creativity, intuition, and talent. Marc has authored several papers in diverse outlets including Tourism Management, Management Learning, the Journal of Creative Behavior, Creativity and Innovation Management, the International Journal of Contemporary Hospitality Management, and the Handbook of Research Methods on Intuition. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Contemporary Issues in Business and Government and is a steering group member of the Research Methodology Special Interest Group at the British Academy of Management.

Presentation at a glance:
Relatively little practice-based research explores situated learning beyond the level of basic skill development. In this research seminar, Marc seeks to expand our understanding by focusing on the situated development of high-level creativity in the practice of haute cuisine and the role of the master–apprentice relationship in this development.

Much has been written on what creativity is and where it happens, but little is known about how it is developed. Having been a chef in haute cuisine himself, Marc’s experience as insider provides the necessary contextual understanding for studying and explaining the development of high-level creativity in haute cuisine. This research seminar provides insides into the world of creativity and qualitative research.
