In a framework of 10 Integrated Projects (IPs) scientists address key environmental challenges following a solution-oriented approach. In order to strengthen its interdisciplinary work, UFZ is currently offering 12 PhD positions dedicated to the following subjects:
- Resilience provisioning of biodiversity across environmental gradients
- Plant functional traits as indicators for ecosystem services
- A legal framework for urban sustainability finance
- Ecological-economic analysis of wind power deployment
- Bio-photovoltaics (BPV) with cyanobacteria
- A parsimonious model for DOC and solute exports from temperate catchments
- Assessing biofilm-mediated functions in aquatic ecosystems
- Model verification with CRNS proximal sensing in semi-arid regions
- Impact of microorganisms’ intra-population heterogeneity on chemical degradation
- Spatial imaging of chemicals in zebrafish embryos
- Contaminants, bacterial metabolism and immune cells
- Plant productivity from hyperspectral remote sensing at landscape scale
Our doctoral researchers are fully integrated in international teams of scientists, providing ample access to expertise and support in an interdisciplinary environment. Our young researchers are furthermore supported by our Helmholtz Interdisciplinary Graduate School for Environmental Research (HIGRADE) which offers a framework for successful completion of their dissertation and prepares them for careers at research institutions or the private sector .
