MEDASSET is seeking a dynamic leader with commitment to MEDASSET's values and mission, as a full-time Director at its Central Athens, Greece, head office leading a team of five staff in total.
MEDASSET – the Mediterranean Association to Save the Sea Turtles – is an international environmental non-governmental organisation (NGO) founded in 1988, working for the conservation of sea turtles and their habitats throughout the Mediterranean. It is involved in conservation and scientific research programmes, public awareness, environmental education, conservation initiatives and lobbying decision-makers (for more info: www.medasset.org).
Duties include:
• Management of staff and allocation of responsibilities
• Communication and collaboration with President and Board of Directors
• Financial planning and budget management
• Representation of the organisation, networking and relationship building at a national (Greek), Mediterranean and international level.
• Strategic planning and organisational development
• Policy, procedure and indicator setting. Performance assessment
• Proposal and Project development and management, including EU-funded programmes, in collaboration with staff
• Policy lobbying and Advocacy
• Authoring articles, papers, presentations, etc.
Qualifications & Skills:
• Master’s or higher level university degree in marine sciences, biology, conservation, environmental sciences, political sciences or management. Or, a bachelor degree in these disciplines with relevant professional experience of at least five years.
• Proven commitment to environmental protection and nature conservation
• Knowledge of international and EU environmental policies, legislation and structures
• Presentation and public speaking skills
• Proven track record of effective management
• Excellent written and oral Greek and English language skills. (NB: majority of work is in English).
• IT and computer software skills (Microsoft Windows & Office, Email, Internet, etc)
• Male Greek citizens should have fulfilled their military obligations
• Availability to travel frequently
Additional preferred qualifications
• Previous experience in environmental or other NGOs.
