The PhD education and the thesis work is conducted in close connection with the Linnaeus University Centre for Labour Market and Discrimination Studies (http://lnu.se/lnuc/linnaeus-university-centre-for-labour-market-and-disc.... Our researchers are active within the fields of Labor Economics, Discrimination, International Migration, Public Economics and Political Economics. Affiliated to the centre are not only economists, but also statisticians, psychologists and political scientists.
The position implies active participation within research projects/research programs in economics within the School of Economics and Management. At least 80 % of the employment will be carried out in the form of independent work at the PhD level in accordance with a general and an individual study plan. It is expected that the PhD education should lead to a PhD degree or a ”Licentiate” degree. At most 20 % of the position is devoted to teaching and administration.

Requirements
Eligible for appointment as doctoral student are those who can be accepted for education at third-cycle level. The application for appointment as doctoral student will, therefore, also be processed as an application for education at third-cycle level. In order to be admitted to such education general and/or specific requirements are needed. In order to be admitted to education at third-cycle level in economics the following requirements are needed:
General requirements
- a completed master’s degree
- completed courses equaling at least 240 higher education credits, of which at least 60 at second-cycle level, or
- equivalent qualifications obtained in some other way in Sweden or other country.
Specific requirements
- a minimum of 90 higher education credits within the field of economics or subject fields related to third-cycle education in economics, or equivalent qualifications obtained in some other way in Sweden or other country,
- a minimum of 15 higher education credits, on first-cycle level or second-cycle level, within the field of economics or subject fields related to third-cycle education in economics, including having written a written a thesis on either first-cycle or second-cycle level.
- demonstrate English skills of sufficiently high level
Within the field of economics, evaluation of the applicant’s ability to benefit from the education is primarily based on (i) scientific skills documented in scientific work, in particular the quality of theses on second-cycle level and other scientific work, (ii) course grades, particularly at second-cycle level, (iii) how the applicant’s odds of succeeding are perceived by the staff within the subject field, (iv) evaluation from interviews.
