Open Vacancies at Danish Refugee Council (Mytilene)

DRC is an international non-governmental organisation, which promotes and supports durable solutions to the problems faced by refugees and internally displaced people all over the world.

DRC’s mandate is driven by three global strategic objectives within the DRC Assistance Framework: Saving lives and alleviation of immediate suffering among people affected by conflict, Safeguarding, restoration and development of livelihoods, and, Institutional and organisational change that contributes to protection of people’s rights and peaceful handling of conflict.

DRC was established in Greece in December 2015 with the country office currently located in Mytilene on the island of Lesvos. The program is currently focused on Lesvos where we work in support of the Greek Ministry of Migration Policy and in partnership with registered volunteer groups to improve access to humanitarian assistance and protection for new arrivals regardless of their nationality. DRC also works with a national NGO in Athens primarily to provide legal aid to refugees and asylum seekers. DRC is now planning to assess needs elsewhere in Greece with potential expansion to other locations to follow in the coming months. DRC is currently funded by DfID, UNHCR, own funds and private contributions.

The main focus are of the Protection Program Manager relates mainly to the saving of lives and alleviation of immediate suffering objective, but will also contribute to working towards the other objectives.

Protection Program Manager - Greece.
Essential:
- A Bachelor degree in a relevant field
- At least five years INGO experience in protection programming, including at least two years management of emergency response
- Strong analytical, organizational, and management and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead vulnerability assessments, beneficiary registration, distributions, monitoring and evaluation in emergency situations
- Demonstrated ability to develop effective protection programming, including project design, budget preparation, expenditure tracking, monitoring and evaluation, reporting, supervision and performance
- Proven commitment to accountable practices and knowledgeable of quality assurance systems
- Hands on experience in managing staff and strong human resource management skills in general.
- Good communicator and proven diplomacy with all types of stakeholders
- Experience of managing budgets and multiple donor contracts, particularly with UNHCR, DFID, and EuropeAid
- Fluent and articulate in spoken and written English.
- Ability to work independently, but also coordinate effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to lead a multi-cultural team with a high level of respect for local culture.
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Power Point).
- Ability and willingness to work and live in a cross cultural team.
Preferable:
- Relevant language skills (Greek, Farsi, Arabic, or other relevant language skills for Persons of Concern).
