In 2020, Plymouth will celebrate the 400th Anniversary of the sailing of the Mayflower, the ship that carried the pioneering Pilgrim Fathers to America.
The University of St Mark & St John has developed a five-year Fellowship programme designed to recruit the highest calibre inspirational, innovative minds to our campus and to the City of Plymouth.
Applications are invited for the posts of Mayflower Doctoral Fellow. These positions are open to a range of practitioners with recent and relevant experience in their field and a strong interest in research.
New positions combining teaching and research training in a range of subject areas across the University will assist in driving forward both our Teaching and Learning and Research agendas and the development of a new generation of academics.
The Fellowships will support both those with an existing academic background and those with a practitioner or industry background with an ambition to establish an academic career.
Applicants must have both the ambition to make a key contribution to the University’s strategic aim of enhancing its academic impact, reach and profile and to undertake both teaching and research in the areas of Sport, Education or Health. Applicants with an interest in developing research-led interventions using creative and digital technology are particularly invited to apply.
Post holders will contribute to the development and teaching of undergraduate degrees and all Fellows will be required to have or be prepared to obtain within their first year of employment, a teaching qualification as recommended and provided by the University.
These are full time positions and appointed candidates will combine a part-time teaching commitment with a part-time PhD in one of the research areas above. The post of Mayflower Doctoral Fellow is for five years with an opportunity to continue into permanent academic employment with the University subject to satisfactory performance and successful attainment of a PhD.
