Pinewood - The American International School seeks a highly qualified and motivated Visual Arts teacher to join the Secondary school as a part-time substitute teacher beginning September 1, 2016. The successful candidate will be competent in teaching and facilitating artistic learning for students at the Middle School (Grades 6-8) and IB (Grades 11-12) levels and is interested in being a collaborative member of the school faculty.
General requirements for the position:
- Native or near-native English speaker
- Bachelor’s or higher in the field of visual arts with an emphasis in education
- Valid teaching certificate
- Minimum of 2 years experience teaching art
- Experience teaching in the International Baccalaureate (IB) program a major plus
Specific requirements for the position:
- Knowledge of art history and different art genres in order to teach a range of art styles
- Ability to communicate concrete and abstract concepts to students
- Ability to spot and cultivate creativity
- Ability to develop a dynamic art curricula for Middle School, High School and the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Program
- A clear understanding of assessment methods in the field of art
- Participation in school-wide events
- Personal competencies and qualities:
Strong organizational skills
- A conscientious approach to record-keeping
- The motivation to work with children and young people
- A perceptive understanding of adolescents and teenagers and their needs and expectations
- A flexible approach to teaching and a willingness to learn
- A passion for the subject of art and all it offers
